- 1Install Linux onto the computer. There are many variations and flavors of Linux available, some of the most popular are Ubuntu and Fedora.
- 2Update your Linux version once it is installed. Make sure that all the components of your Linux installation are up-to-date by using the Updater utility from the System Administration panel.
- 3Click on "System", then "Administration", and finally select "Synaptic Package Manager". You will want to install the following packages to allow you to build the Dreamweaver box: cvs, autoconf, automake, libtool, gettext, make, makeinfo, tar, bunzip2, gunzip, patch, infocmp, gcc, g++, flex, bison, pkg-config, wget, libpng2 or 3, and the FTP server of your choice
- 4Download the Dreambox software image that matches the specs of the box you are building. This software can be found at such websites as Dreambox4u.com or Digital Video Broadcasting Tools.
- 5Compile the image once you have made the necessary changes and use the "Make Flash-compress" command to create the image that you can use to flash your Dreambox with your new custom build.
